Location and Driving Directions

The Thomas Birkby House is located in downtown Leesburg, Virginia, about 40 miles North West of Washington DC and 15 miles west of the Dulles Airport.

From Washington and points East: Take I-495 (The Beltway) to the Dulles Toll Road exit (Route 267). Stay on the Toll Road; do not take the road to the airport. Continue west. Follow signs for Leesburg. At the end of the Toll Road (approximately 13 miles past Dulles Airport) take the left hand exit. Stay in the right hand lane and take the first right exit, which brings you on to Business 15/King Street. Go right. Follow King Street north to the fourth traffic light, which is Loudoun Street. Turn left. The Thomas Birkby House is two blocks down on the left at Liberty Street. See Parking, below

From Northern Virginia: If you wish to take Highway 7, drive West. As you get near Leesburg proper, stay on Business 7/Market Street. At the intersection of Market and Loudoun Streets (at Mom’s Apple Pie) go left at the ‘Y’ on to Loudoun Street. After crossing King Street, the Town parking is on the right and The Thomas Birkby House is in the next block on the left at Liberty Street. See Parking, below.

From Frederick and points North: Take Rt. 340 and Rt. 15 (same road at that point) South (sign will say Charlestown/Leesburg). Follow for about 2 miles and Rt. 15 bears off on the left. Stay on Rt. 15 into Virginia. Near Leesburg, take Business Rt. 15 into town. In town, Business 15 and King St. are one in the same. Take a right on Loudoun Street. See Parking, below.

From Richmond and points South: Follow Interstate 95 North (about 50 mi) to the Rt. 17 (Warrenton) exit. Follow Rt. 17 North to Opal where it joins US Highways 29 & 15. Follow Rts. 15/29/17 (about 5 mi ) North. The Rts. 15/29 Bypass bears right. Stay on the Rts. 15/29 Bypass (about 10 mi) until Rt. 15 exits to the North. Follow Rt. 15 North (about 20 mi) to Leesburg. Stay on Business 15 (King Street) for several lights. Take a left on Loudoun Street. See Parking, below.

Parking: On Loudoun Street, a half block west of King Street on the right you will see the entrance to the Leesburg Town Public Parking Garage. The parking garage has entrances off both Loudoun and Market Streets. There is a parking lot at the South end of Liberty Street one block pass the Birkby House.
